TOPIC 7: GROUP COMMUNICATION
GROUP COMMUNICATION
I
have learned so much that I will be able to take with me throughout my life and
career. There are several topics that I have found to be crucial in
interacting with people on a professional level. We worked well together, and
always as a team. Working towards the same goal, to complete the assignment and
project at hand. When one of our friends did show up to the class and the
meetings, I felt a definite tension in the group. Her not being prepared well
caused a delay in the meeting, and having to stop and explain where we were was
very frustrating. It slowed the flow of our meetings down. She was not willing
to make the commitment to us as a group. When it came time to present our
solution, we were ready to not let her lack of commitment to our group ruins our
cohesiveness.
While exploring the
chapters and really diving into the material this semester it was interesting
to see how the groups have played out. Particularly in my group, we have
individuals with very similar and different circumstances working with one
another. As a group, we have set task dimensions such as completing our papers and successfully delivering a group project to our peers before the end of the
semester or due dates. These are the clear-cut circumstances we have been
placed into as a group the moment we selected to work with one another.
Other
than our usual meetings on campus all team members communicated via WhatsApp and Telegram. However, the storming stage made me question my previously held
misconceptions regarding this phrase. I have always had a keen desire to
increase my knowledge in this subject area and acquire further qualifications
to support my existing experience. I, therefore, decided a constructive and
encouraging dialogue was necessary, which sought to identify the main areas of
concern and offer practical support and assistance. Following the exchange,
participants started to demonstrate more resilience and motivation which led to
the team regrouping to meet the assignment objectives.
The
‘performing’ phase saw a team consensus based on established roles and a focus
on achieving our common goal. Team members appeared more motivated and we were
able to work more autonomously and competently in solving decisions
independently without supervision from one another. However, dissent still
emerged on another occasion as we all reacted to changing circumstances and the
‘storming’ stage again. This was due to a misunderstanding regarding the
submission date of the assignment and many other participants stated that they
felt unprepared and disheartened. I do believe the close deadlines between
assessments on such a short course did affect the overall quality of the work
produced. However, the team did demonstrate their ability to perform, achieve
the expected outcomes under pressure and reach the target date for completion.
This is example my group communication Everytime we do conversation or group meeting to finish our assignment.
